(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) Freshmen Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., signed a “Pledge to Impeach” President Donald Trump, according to the lawmakers’ aides.

The leftist group By the People has been trying to get congressional Democrats to back its impeachment efforts, and Omar and Tlaib became the first lawmakers to do so.

“The Congresswoman believes that Donald Trump has performed many actions that should bring forth impeachment,” Tlaib spokesman Denzel McCampbell said.

Tlaib appeared in a video signing the petition, vowing to uphold the law and hold Trump accountable.

.

“We’re going to hold everyone accountable to the law, including the president of the United States,” she said.

Omar appeared in a separate video saying Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s soon-to-conclude investigation into Trump’s relationship with Russia could provide Democrats with the opportunity to act.

“I think there will be an opportunity once the Mueller investigation is finished for us to know,” Omar said.

Alexandra Flores–Quilty, a spokeswoman for By the People, said impeachment shouldn’t be “an issue of Republicans vs. Democrats.”

“It’s about the flagrant abuse of presidential power from a white supremacist who is profiting off of the presidential office, abusing his powers, and undermining our democracy and our Constitution,” Flores–Quilty said in a statement.

Tlaib has been outspoken about her desire to impeach the president since her first day in office. Just hours after being sworn in, she told a crowd of supporters, “We’re going to go in and impeach the motherf—er.”
