‘For reasons that are all too easy to comprehend, you have chosen to keep your misgivings and your rising alarm private…’
On Friday, he asked Republicans for help.
Recent news reports have speculated that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into President Donald Trump’s alleged Russia ties is nearing an end, and that it’s likely to disappoint Democrats, the anti-Trump news media and others who have been banking on the Mueller probe to deliver the goods to impeach Trump.
Schiff would know. Before becoming the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee in January, he was the ranking Democrat on the committee since the Russia collusion narrative began.
Schiff has been privy to classified information on the subject and is a suspected serial leaker.
Now, with Mueller potentially off-the-table, the California lawmaker said he’s opening a “new phase” of the investigation—but without evidence, he’ll need plenty of resistance help. And after two years of failed attempts to substantiate his wild collusion theories, there’s no one left to prime except Republicans.
So, Schiff implored them Friday in a Washington Post editorial, accompanied by a heaping helping of anti-Trump spin.
“To my Republican colleagues: When the president attacked the independence of the Justice Department by intervening in a case in which he is implicated, you did not speak out,” wrote Schiff.
“When he attacked the press as the enemy of the people, you again were silent,” Schiff continued.
“But for reasons that are all too easy to comprehend, you have chosen to keep your misgivings and your rising alarm private,” he said. “That must end. The time for silent disagreement is over. You must speak out.”
Meanwhile, Trump sent his own message on Friday, and reminded his 58.5 million Twitter followers that the Senate Intelligence Committee recently concluded its investigation and found not a single shrewd of collusion.
“The Witch Hunt, so bad for our Country, must end!” wrote Trump.
Highly respected Senator Richard Burr, head of Senate Intelligence, said, after interviewing over 200 witnesses and studying over 2 million pages of documents, “WE HAVE FOUND NO COLLUSION BETWEEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIA.” The Witch Hunt, so bad for our Country, must end!
