GOP REP.: Trump is Reason Republicans Lost the House

‘I don’t quite understand why you would attack people who lost, who were on the offensive line…’

(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) Retiring GOP Rep. Ryan Costello (R-Pa.) attacked President Donald Trump for suggesting that certain Republican candidates lost in the midterm elections because they rejected his agenda.

In an interview with MSNBC, Costello said Trump was the only one to blame for Democrats regaining control of the House.

“If it was a complete victory, as the president suggests, then the folks on the frontline, who were putting up the toughest votes to get the legislative victories that the president has had, are the folks that lost,” Costello said. “And I don’t quite understand why you would attack people who lost, who were on the offensive line.”

During a press conference after the midterm elections, Trump named several GOP candidates who chose to distance themselves from his campaigning efforts and said they lost because of it.

“You had some that decided to say ‘Let’s stay away.’ They did very poorly,” Trump said. “I’m not sure I should be happy or sad, but I feel just fine about it.”

Costello criticized Trump for attacking “good men and women.”

“Maybe it’s just a reminder that if you don’t pledge completely loyalty, if you ever say anything remotely critical, then the second that he has the opportunity to wack you, he’ll do it,” Costello said.

Costello did not seek another term in Pennsylvania’s 6th district, and expressed frustration at Trump for “piss[ing]” on Republican candidates.
