‘Using Tina Tchen as an investigator reveals that the SPLC has no intention of correcting its wrongs…’
(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) It’s the irony of ironies: The once credible Southern Poverty Law Center spends millions attacking Christians, pro-family groups and garden-variety, nonviolent conservatives by mischaracterizing them as “hate groups.”
Among other instances, the organization was forced to apologize for posting an “extremist file” on Dr. Ben Carson, the former African American GOP presidential candidate and current Trump administration cabinet member.
It was also forced to apologize and pay a $3.4 million settlement to Islam reformist Maajid Nawaz, who it labeled an “anti-Muslim extremist” and “white nationalist.”
As it turns out, it’s the SPLC that might have an actual problem with racism and sexual harassment.
And doubling down on the group’s apparent hypocrisy, is that the half-billion-dollar organization’s board of directors has hired Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff, Tina Tchen, to fix its alleged highly-abusive internal culture.
Tchen is the same aide who was recently caught interfering in the Jussie Smollett prosecution in Chicago.
Tchen was at least texting with Cook County state’s attorney Kim Foxx during the racially-charged Smollett police probe.
“Wanted to give you a call on behalf of Jussie Smollett and family who I know. They have concerns about the investigation,” she wrote to Foxx in one text.
Smollett, an actor who is both black and gay, allegedly staged a hate crime and then blamed Trump supporters. A grand jury indicted him on 16 felony counts in March, but a few days later Foxx’s office decided to drop the charges.
In an overlapping time frame, Morris Dees, the legendary co-founder of the SPLC, was fired in March for what was initially described as simply “inappropriate conduct.” Then, the organization’s president, Richard Cohen, resigned.
Leaked internal communications however revealed that the SPLC’s mostly white leadership was awash in complaints from both women and minorities.
Dees himself stands accused of committing multiple instances of sexual harassment, with the complaints allegedly being ignored or covered up by the group’s top brass.
According to leaked emails, several female staffers even resigned over a period of years due to harassment—and retaliation for speaking up about it. Women and minorities at SPLC have also allegedly made gender discrimination and racism claims.
Now, employees at the pro-feminist and anti-discrimination progressive attack-dog are demanding an investigation. But choosing Tchen has raised more than a few eyebrows.
“The hypocrisy continues at the SPLC as the person they hired to investigate its ongoing immoral behavior appears to have engaged in her own efforts to protect Jesse Smollett from prosecution,” said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of the Liberty Counsel.
“Using Tina Tchen as an investigator reveals that the SPLC has no intention of correcting its wrongs,” he said.
