‘This is a recipe for fraud…’
(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the so-called “Green-Light law” in June 2019, making it easier for illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses.
The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) released a report that highlights the risks that the law, formally titled the Driver’s License Access and Privacy Act, creates for federal immigration enforcement and public safety.
Since the law allows illegal aliens to obtain state-sponsored identification, federal immigration enforcement will have more difficulty distinguishing legal citizens and residents from illegal residents.
The Green-Light law lets illegal aliens apply for driver’s licenses by using supporting documents from foreign governments, which no “U.S. entity” can verify, CIS reported.
This will increase the ability of illegal aliens to employ fraudulent identities while applying for driver’s licenses.
Cuomo’s Green-Light law further entrenches the state’s anti-law enforcement, sanctuary city policy by preventing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from searching through records of the N.Y. Department of Motor Vehicles (NYDMV).
Since an illegal alien who applies for a driver’s licenses will not have federal identification, the New York law “will no longer require the applicant to provide a valid Social Security number,” granting him or her a privilege not afforded to American citizens.
Instead, New York will accept “foreign passports, foreign driver’s licenses, and consular identification documents (CIDs).”
The CIS report estimates that the NYDMV must accept approximately 540 different documents from 180 countries.
“By the time all variations of documents are counted, there will be over 600 documents acceptable to establish identity at NYDMV — but with no mechanism to verify these documents through the issuing authority,” according to the report. “This is a recipe for fraud.”
The law benefits illegal aliens, especially those hoping to commit crimes or terror attacks, as well as “employers who are amenable to hiring aliens without work authorization.”
New York’s Green-Light offers cheap labor to big corporations and new public safety threats.
“There is absolutely no benefit in the Green-Light law for law-abiding U.S. citizens or aliens legally in the United States,” the report said.
