‘Nothing more than a radical, hyper-partisan and shameless attempt to appease the Democrat Party’s Socialist base…’
(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may have “disinvited” President Donald Trump from delivering the annual State of the Union Address from the “people’s House” on Wednesday.
But Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks has a back-up plan.
Brooks sent an official letter to the president on Thursday urging him to deliver the constitutionally mandated address from across the U.S. Capitol building in the Senate chamber.
Brooks didn’t hold back when describing his proposal.
“Speaker Pelosi’s conduct is nothing more than a radical, hyper-partisan and shameless attempt to appease the Democrat Party’s Socialist base and childishly embarrass the President of the United States,” he said.
The four-term congressman ripped Pelosi, a San Francisco Democrat, for feigning concern over Trump’s safety as the reason for canceling the event that traditionally occurs in the House of Representatives.
Pelosi told NBC News Wednesday that with Homeland Security and the Secret Service impacted by the partial government shutdown, it’s not safe for the House to host the president.
“It’s an event of special security,” Pelosi said, breaking longstanding bipartisan norms.
“The people who are — we would have the President of the United States, the Vice President of the United States, the entire Congress of the United States, House and Senate, the Supreme Court, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the cabinet of the United States. Did I say that? And the diplomatic corps, all in the same room,” she stumbled.
Brooks didn’t buy it.
“It is the height of hutzpah for Speaker Pelosi to feign concern for the President’s personal security during the State of the Union Address while callously showing no concern for the thousands of Americans who die each year because of illegal aliens and America’s porous southern border,” he said.
“Wouldn’t it be nice if CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, the Washington Post and the New York Times to tell their stories,” he said.
“Speaker Pelosi’s attempt to muffle President Trump and appease her radical, socialist, open borders base using the false claim of security concerns is shameful,” Brooks continued Thursday.
He also revealed that Pelosi and House Democrats never actually contacted Homeland Security or the Secret Service — a point confirmed by Department of Homeland Security head Kirstjen Nielsen in a Tweet.
The Department of Homeland Security and the US Secret Service are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union. We thank the Service for their mission focus and dedication and for all they do each day to secure our homeland.
