‘Dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks…’
(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) Michelle Obama says in her new book she will never forgive President Donald Trump for spreading the “birther” conspiracy theory about her husband.
The Washington Post obtained excerpts of the former first lady’s memoir “Becoming,” and in it, she claims Trump is responsible for spreading the “xenophobic” claim that former President Barack Obama was not actually born in America.
“The whole thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed,” the former first lady writes. “But it was also dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks.”
Mrs. Obama said that by egging on the far-right conspiracy theorists, Trump put her family in danger.
“What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him,” she says.
The book, to release on Tuesday, details Mrs. Obama’s early life in Chicago through her time in the White House, and includes her feelings of shock and disbelief after Trump’s victory in 2016, according to the Post.
Though she reportedly avoids directly criticizing the president in much of the memoir, she also takes aim at his comments about women in the “Access Hollywood” tape and his conduct during the presidential debates against Hillary Clinton.
Trump fired back at Michelle’s criticisms on Friday while speaking to reporters, reports Fox News.
“She got paid a lot of money to write a book,” he said, and then took a shot at Barack Obama: “I’ll never forgive him for what he did to our United States military by not funding it properly … it was depleted.”
