‘It’s safe to say that the national spectacle the professional Left has created around Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation process has now reached a fever-pitch…’
(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took to the Senate floor Wednesday morning to deliver definitive, and potentially historic, remarks regarding Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation proceedings.
President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who retired earlier this year, and per the U.S. Constitution, the Senate must vote favorably in order to confirm him. But the fiasco that has ensued over the past two weeks has drawn the ire of the normally subdued Kentucky Republican.
McConnell gave a historically damning on-the-record speech about how his Democratic colleagues have handled the democratically sacred Supreme Court confirmation process, that included phrases like “mudslide,” “fever-pitch” and “feeding frenzy.”
“It’s safe to say that the national spectacle the professional Left has created around Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation process has now reached a fever-pitch,” McConnell said, beginning in his 15-minute speech.
“In 17 days since Dr. Ford’s confidential correspondence was leaked to the press, the feeding frenzy against Judge Kavanaugh and his family is unlike anything we have seen in recent memory,” McConnell continued.
Kavanaugh stands accused of sexual assault by Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology professor at Palo Alto University in California. Ford has alleged the assault took place at a high school party 36 years ago in Maryland. Kavanaugh emphatically denies the allegations.
To date, no evidence beyond the ‘he-said, she-said’ accounts has been offered by Kavanaugh’s accusers.
“Since then, a mudslide of wild, uncorroborated accusations has poured out, each more outlandish than the last,” McConnell said before tying Senate Democrats to a well-funded scheme to destroy the highly-respected, but conservative judge.
“This mudslide has been actively embraced, urged on and capitalized upon by Democrats in this chamber, and organized by far-left special interests outside,” McConnell said in a way that tested the boundaries of Senate decorum.
He explained that Democrats have been using an “any means necessary” strategy to destroy Kavanaugh. And because they are no facts to support their incendiary claims, they’ve resorted to “intimidation and bullying.”
“It’s not about getting to the truth,” McConnell concluded, perhaps for the history books.
