‘I will just do my work as a member of Congress and as a chairman…’
(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) With Democrats in control of the House, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) is poised to take over as the chairperson of the House Financial Services Committee, giving her the power to subpoena and investigate the Trump administration.
Waters has already suggested that her ascension could result in congressional probes into President Trump’s personal finances when he runs for reelection.
Waters has already attempted to subpoena documents from the Treasury Department that could reveal potential financial connections between Trump and Russia.
Republicans never heeded her request, but now Waters can demand the documents.
“If there is information that is going to be unveiled about what has been going on in the White House or Donald Trump or the Treasury, it will come out,” Waters told MSNBC in September, vowing to pursue the matter “in a responsible way.”
“I am not looking to make up stories or to create ways by which to trap anybody,” she said, when asked how she would perform her role if appointed chairman of the committee. “I will just do my work as a member of Congress and as a chairman.”
Trump warned against this possibility, calling Waters “corrupt” and untrustworthy.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters was called the most Corrupt Member of Congress! @FoxNews If Dems win, she would be put in charge of our Country’s finances. The beginning of the end!

In an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday, Waters suggested using her position to increase banking regulation, lashing out at Republicans for revising Dodd-Frank.
“For everything that we have tried to do to bring about some fairness and justice for these financial services companies and etcetera, we have absolutely been fought against by Republicans,” Waters said.
