‘The hour to put country before petty partisan differences has come…’
(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) While their House colleagues ramp up investigations into every possible Trump misdeed, Senate Democrats are furious that Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., the new chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wants to investigate Obama-era corruption.
Graham has made it clear that as chairman, he will dig into the FBI’s investigation of then-secretary of state Hillary Clinton’s private email server and the approval of warrant applications that allowed the FBI to target President Trump’s former campaign aide Carter Page.
Democrats have denied any wrongdoing under the Obama administration.
“This is going to be like the History Channel it turns out. Instead of taking a look at the current issues, Lindsey Graham wants to go back and answer important questions about the Bermuda Triangle and Hillary Clinton,” Durbin said.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., who sits on the committee, joked that Graham should “investigate Benghazi some more too,” referring to a foreign scandal that cost American lives.
Sen. Christopher Coons, D-Del., has worked with Graham on a number of bipartisan issues and advised the new chairman to be conscientious of polarizing investigations.
“It depends on how divisive partisan topics are approached,” Coons said. “It is possible for the Judiciary Committee to remain a highly functional committee even while tackling controversial topics.”
When asked if Graham should continue to focus on bipartisan efforts instead, Coons said: “I think that would be a more constructive way to start, I’ll simply put it that way.”
Democrats want the Senate Judiciary Committee to instead investigate a faulty Buzzfeed report that alleges President Trump directed his former attorney, Michael Cohen, to lie in his testimony to Congress.
“Our committee must conduct a thorough investigation of the President’s involvement in these crimes and whether he obstructed justice to hide them. … The hour to put country before petty partisan differences has come,” he wrote.
Blumenthal, who has dodged his own stolen-valor allegations for falsely claiming veteran status on the campaign trail, offered no explanation as to why that hour had only just arrived, despite the litany of credible claims of corruption against the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton campaign that registered nary a blip on Democrats’ radar.
