(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) U.S. Border Patrol agents caught hundreds of illegal aliens on Tuesday night in El Paso, Texas, in what’s become one of the worst periods of illegal immigration in history.

The groups were comprised primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied juveniles — but also included violent criminals and sex offenders.

Agents reported arresting a group of 112 illegals at the border wall area near downtown El Paso just after midnight on Tuesday, while other agents were simultaneously processing a group of 252 aliens who had crossed the border further east near a high school.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, several additional large groups arrived at multiple locations along the border in the El Paso metropolitan area, presumably seeking refuge and hoping eventually to be released from detention centers once inside the country.

The groups included children as young as 2 years old, agents said.

“In just a few hours the total number taken into custody exceeded 500,” a U.S. Border Patrol said in a statement.

But they kept coming.

Earlier this week, the agency released stunning data detailing the record increase in apprehensions of “inadmissible family units” at the southern border.

Specifically, the data showed the greatest increase in the El Paso Sector’s history, with illegal family groups up 1,689 percent compared to same period last year.

Violent criminals and sex offenders are also making their way across the border, they said.

Agents are only aware of who they catch and process, but even on that account dangerous individuals continue to be apprehended during the current explosion of illegal immigrant entrants.

Border patrol agents said they arrested two convicted sex offenders attempting to enter the country illegally on Tuesday night, while other agents were preoccupied with the larger groups of illegals.

Both sex offenders were arrested attempting to blend in with different groups and evade authorities.

Once caught, it was determined that both subjects had been convicted of sex crimes and had already served time in prison. They were also previously deported for their crimes.

Another group of six illegals was arrested the same night, with one of the individuals admitting to being a prison gang member who had an active federal warrant for escaping from prison.
