‘They’re making those billions crossing the border illegally, we ought to use their ill-gotten gains…’
(Lionel Parrott, Liberty Headlines) Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has come up with a novel way to pay for the border wall: by taking the funding from the coffers of Mexican cartels and other criminal gangs.
The junior senator from the Lone Star State appeared on “The Joe Pags Show” to discuss his bill, the “EL CHAPO Act,” which he recently reintroduced in the Senate.
Known as the “Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order Act,” the legislation would take any money that courts take from El Chapo and other drug lords so that the border can be secured.
“We should take all of the money criminally forfeited from El Chapo and from any other drug lords and use that money to secure the border,” Cruz stated. “They’re making those billions crossing the border illegally, we ought to use their ill-gotten gains to stop drug trafficking and stop human trafficking at the same time.”
Currently, the United States government wants El Chapo, former leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, to forfeit over $14 billion in illegal profits.
The notorious cartel head, whose real name is Joaquin Archivaldo Guzman Lorea, was extradited to the U.S. in order to face criminal prosecution.
On the radio program, Cruz also stated his views on the federal government shutdown, where he continued to voice support for securing the border, adding that “the sad reality is that Washington Democrats have decided illegal immigration is good for them politically.”
Concerning his constituents, Cruz stated:
“I think the vast majority of Texans … want to see common sense border security, and are not happy with the Schumer shutdown where Democrats have gone so far as partially shut the government down to stop securing the border.”
If Cruz is right, then Democrats will oppose wall funding no matter where it comes from … even if it comes from money confiscated from El Chapo and other drug lords.
