‘If you finance or reward terrorism, you don’t deserve a penny from the United States…’
(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) A bill that would defund the Palestinian Authority became law on Friday when President Donald Trump signed it.
The Taylor Force Act (TFA) withdraws funding from the PA until they stop funding terrorist groups and denounce acts of terror against Israeli citizens.
The bill was named after a U.S. Army veteran who was killed by a Palestinian terrorist while on a civilian trip to Israel in March 2016.
The bill passed both the House and Senate this month.
At question is a Palestinian program that compensates terrorists convicted by Israeli courts, paying the terrorists’ family members.
The PA claims these terrorists are “legitimate combatants,” even though many have been convicted for purposefully killing Israeli citizens.
The PA spent $358 million on payments to terrorists and their families in 2017.
In 2016, it spent $322 million on these stipends.
“The bill is pretty simple,” said House Speaker Paul Ryan. “If you finance or reward terrorism, you don’t deserve a penny from the United States. The PA should be forced to choose between its despicable practice of paying terrorists’ salaries and receiving foreign aid funded by the American taxpayer. And until that time comes, no government that supports the murder of innocent civilians can claim to be a serious partner for peace.”
According to Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit litigation group, each terrorist serving a three- to five-year sentence in an Israeli prison receives $580 per month.
If they’re married, they receive an additional $87 per month, and those with children receive an additional $14 per child.
The TFA blocks U.S. funding to the PA as long as this program remains in operation.
“I applaud President Trump and Congress for defunding the Palestinian Authority advocacy and support of terrorism,” said Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel and President of Christians in Defense of Israel. “Thanks to President Trump who was willing to set the tone and do the right thing regarding terrorism.
“Prior Republican and Democratic presidents have continued to fund the Palestinian Authority even though they knew that our tax dollars were being used to promote and fund terrorism. As of today, that sad chapter has been closed and a new day has dawned.”
