‘When I tried to interject that this wasn’t true—and indicated that I had evidence of Bank of America’s direct funding for Planned Parenthood, company officials cut me off…’
Justin Danhof, director of the Free Enterprise Project at the National Center for Public Policy Research, raised the issue about the company’s support for abortion at a yearly meeting of Bank of America investors.
Bank of America said it does not donate directly to Planned Parenthood, though the company admitted it does donate indirectly through its employee matching grant program, the Center reported.
Danhof presented evidence from 2nd Vote, an organization dedicated to corporate transparency, that showed Bank of America listed as a “corporate sponsor” for a 2017 gala and a “bronze sponsor” for Planned Parenthood’s 2018 “Spring Into Action Gala.”
“Bank of America is one of 38 companies that contributes funds to Planned Parenthood. Gallup polling indicates that, when it comes to abortion, Americans are equally divided on the subject,” Danhof said.
Increasingly, virtue-signaling groups and leftist politicians have attacked companies—banks among them—over their support for controversial political causes and have even delved into their corporate past for potential skeletons.
The city of Los Angeles, for example, is currently being sued after implementing a policy that forced potential contractors to disclose a range of irrelevant details—including any ties to the NRA, the construction of the proposed Mexican border wall, or historic profits from slavery.
Danhof noted that Planned Parenthood also had a checkered past that donors should be morally obligated to account for.
“Let’s not forget the racial elements at play,” he said. “Planned Parenthood was founded by noted racist Margaret Sanger who wrote…’we do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the [n-word] population.’”
Danhof asked Moynihan to confirm whether he still believes Bank of America only contributes indirectly to Planned Parenthood—and what he has to say to the pro-life Americans who want banking services without worrying that they support the systematic killing of unborn babies.
Danhof said Moynihan did not answer but deferred to Andrew Plepler, Bank of America’s global head of environmental, social & governance, who did not address the new evidence.
“Plepler gave me a canned answer that repeated the half-truth about donating to Planned Parenthood via the company’s matching gift program,” Danhof said. “When I tried to interject that this wasn’t true—and indicated that I had evidence of Bank of America’s direct funding for Planned Parenthood, company officials cut me off.”
Danhof added that after he confronted Plepler for allegedly lying, Moynihan “angrily bellowed” that it the truth. “Clearly, it’s Moynihan who has an issue with the truth,” he said.
After the meeting, Pepler told Danhof that he would check the donations that Bank of America has made.
Danhof said he believed Pepler would “correct the record and publicly admit” that Bank of America donates directly to Planned Parenthood.
